Description

Introduction to the NeuroTrac Simplex EMG Biofeedback Unit

The NeuroTrac Simplex EMG Biofeedback device is a cutting-edge surface EMG biofeedback machine designed to monitor and improve muscle activity. This user-friendly tool provides real-time feedback on muscle contractions, helping users increase awareness and control of their movements. Ideal for rehabilitation, sports training, and muscle re-education, the NeuroTrac Simplex EMG Biofeedback is widely used by physical therapists and patients for its accuracy and ease of use. Whether for personal health improvement or professional therapy settings, this surface EMG biofeedback machine offers a reliable way to support muscle recovery and enhance physical performance.

The NeuroTrac Simplex EMG Biofeedback Unit is a low-cost, advanced, modern single-channel EMG unit featuring an easy-to-see bright LED bar graph and LCD for feedback training. EMG biofeedback measures and trains muscle response for various physiotherapy applications, including incontinence and damaged muscles. NeuroTrac Simplex EMG Biofeedback is ideal for use at home or in a clinical setting. It can help assess and treat muscular problems, repetitive strain injury (RSI), and the consequences of a stroke.

The NeuroTrac Simplex EMG Biofeedback device has been developed for its ease of use, to assist therapists and, most importantly, patients in understanding the importance of applying EMG, to enhance the understanding of muscle activity, and to improve muscle conditioning. The NeuroTrac Simplex EMG Biofeedback also acts as a diagnostic tool for measuring muscle activity in microvolts.

Benefits and Features of the NeuroTrac Simplex EMG Biofeedback

With the NeuroTrac Simplex EMG Biofeedback, you can measure and monitor the strength of your muscles. The Neurotrac Simplex is a biofeedback device (also known as EMG)—it tells you exactly how strong your muscles are and can help you with your manual Kegel or pelvic floor exercises.

It is ideal for muscle rehabilitation following injury. You can opt to receive four skin electrodes with your Neurotrac Simplex, which measures the contractions of your muscle. This helps you better understand how your muscles work and perform biofeedback training for weak muscles. It can also be a diagnostic tool to measure muscle activity and display your progress.

The NeuroTrac Simplex EMG Biofeedback Unit is an accurate and sensitive device that measures muscle activity as low as 0.2 mv (microvolts) and up to 2000 mV. The diverse range enables the device to measure weak muscle activity, for example, in lax pelvic floor muscles. The NeuroTrac Simplex can also be used with a vaginal or rectal probe to measure the strength of your Kegel exercises and pelvic floor muscles. This helps you monitor your progress and achieve stronger muscles so you are not wasting time exercising incorrectly!

With the NeuroTrac Simplex EMG Biofeedback Unit, you know exactly when you are squeezing the right muscles, to what level you are squeezing, and for how long you can hold the muscle contraction—this information is valuable in your quest for a strong pelvic floor.

What is EMG Biofeedback, and how does NeuroTrac Simplex EEG Biofeedback work

Electromyography (EMG) or Biofeedback is a technique for evaluating and recording the electrical activity

EMG graph

produced by skeletal muscles. EMG is performed using an instrument called electromyography to produce a record called an electromyogram. An electromyograph detects the electrical potential generated by muscle cells when these cells are electrically or neurologically activated. You can analyze the signals to detect medical abnormalities, assess activation levels, determine recruitment order, or study human or animal movement biomechanics.

Guide to Using the NeuroTrac Device for EMG Biofeedback

Locate the muscle and place a pair of skin electrodes on its main bulk, maintaining a 1–5 cm separation between the electrodes (electrode placement sites are detailed on the EMG Biofeedback page). Always remember to use the reference wire! Place the reference electrode anywhere on the body to ensure accurate measurements.

Once you have positioned the reference and measuring electrodes, connect them to the unit. Your relaxation or contraction level will be displayed in microvolts. A reading below four microvolts indicates a relaxed muscle with no interference and a proper connection.

When you contract the muscle, the bar graph reading rises accordingly. If the top LEDs on the bar graph don’t light up, you can adjust the sensitivity by lowering the threshold (using the THRS button).

For the NeuroTrac Simplex EMG Biofeedback Unit program, aim to contract the muscles quickly and hold above the threshold during the 5-second Work segment. After this, relax entirely during the 5-second Rest segment, keeping below the threshold. A good relaxation level is under 4μV, while an excellent level is below 1μV.

Steps for EMG Simplex

A muscle reading below 4μV indicates it is starting to relax. However, if the Rest average remains above 4μV, use the EMG reference lead wire. A reading over 4μV may suggest that the muscle is overstimulated or tired after an extended EMG session.

Work/Rest Assessment and EMG Reading

Patient progress report
Once the Work / Rest assessment is finished, the statistics are displayed on the LCD. Comparing the statistics collected from previous assessments gives you the key to understanding the progress of muscle rehabilitation. If the unit is locked, all the sessions will be added together to form the overall average reading for the given period, given the number of trials performed and the average muscle activity.

You can use the optional PC Software with Simplex. You will see your EMG biofeedback reading on the PC as a running graph.

Overview of the NeuroTrac Simplex EMG Biofeedback Unit

The NeuroTrac Simplex EMG Biofeedback Unit is designed to stand upright on any flat surface. It allows users to perform specific exercises while monitoring biofeedback through bright LED lights on the front panel. The LCD screen automatically displays the average muscle readings at the end of a session, which may include five trials of 5 seconds of work and 5 seconds of rest. If the unit is locked, it accumulates all session data, providing an overall average for the period, including the total trials and average muscle activity.

Additionally, the device is compatible with the provided PC software. The NeuroTrac Simplex has a built-in Bluetooth transmitter, allowing wireless connectivity up to 10 meters. This feature lets you send data to your laptop or PC while in motion.

The unit also functions as a continuous EMG visualization tool. When powered on, it continuously reads EMG data for as long as the battery lasts (20–40 hours). Connect it to the PC software (via Open Display protocol) to display real-time graphs, generate statistical summaries, and store data for later analysis. You can also export data in CSV format, making it compatible with programs like Excel and Matlab for further processing.

You can download the Neurotrac Simplex Operators Manual here.
